IRI, Syria should keep their cordial ties

Islamic Revolution Leader Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei said on Saturday that Iran and Syria should proceed with their close cooperation which has been cordial during the past 30 years.

The IR Leader made the remarks in a meeting with visiting Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

The IR Leader also honored the memory of the late Syrian leader Hafez al-Assad.

Concerning the two nations' ties, Ayatollah Khamenei said the Current political relations between Iran and Syria are excellent and should be expanded.

Ayatollah Khamenei expressed the hope that the two countries could also bolster and broaden ties through business and technical cooperation.

The IR Leader alerted that the US is the main obstacle in the way of resistance to occupation in the region, but, to no avail.

It is incumbent upon all countries in the region to help promote cooperation in the region, said the IR Leader expressing the hope that all Iraqi political wings would rely on peoples’ votes and reconstruct Iraq.

"Of course, this will be materialized after a pull-out of the occupying forces from the country," Ayatollah Khamenei said.

The Syrian President, for his part, described the two nations' relations as exemplary and said the Islamic Republic of Iran and Syria share common position concerning global problems.

“Syria and Iran shall promote bilateral relations and cooperation. We have promising prospects ahead of the two nations,' President al-Assad said.

Meanwhile, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was present in the meeting.
