They took to the streets in a spontaneous move.

The marches helped douse a fire of western backed political sedition which broke out following the June presidential elections.

The doctrine of Wilaya-te Faqih stipulates an Islam-attuned democratic government running under the supervision of a devout, valiant, and shrewd Faqih.

The model of Islamic Republic in the past three decades has challenged a frustratingly faulty model of liberal democratic government.

Friday prayer leader of Tehran, Ayatollah Sayyed Ahmad Khatami said a polls turnout in the next parliamentary elections (March 2) will be massive.

Thanks to the Islamic Revolution, the Iranian nation managed to gain the right to determine its destiny after ousting a despotic ruler (Shah), he added.

'That's a great achievement for the Iranians to elect all the officials either directly or indirectly,' he said.

Referring to the efforts to undermine elections, he said that the nation will pay no attention to such things.

The nation has always obeyed the recommendations of the late founder of the Islamic Revolution Imam Khomeini to attend the scene and massively turn out in elections.

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei said on Wednesday that the diplomatic apparatus is expected to publicize the new word of the Islamic Republic in the international dialogue.

In a meeting with ambassadors of the Islamic Republic abroad and foreign minister, the Islamic Revolution Leader said that the Islamic Republic of Iran has developed a dialogue in light of public participation in governing system and the divine values.

The Islamic Revolution Leader acknowledged that diplomacy is the scene of confrontation and challenge due to interest conflict and said that for Iranian ambassadors working for the diplomatic apparatus is beyond the ordinary diplomatic mission because they represent a governing system with which the arrogant powers have developed a basic dispute.

'Officials of Foreign Ministry and ambassadors of the Islamic Republic of Iran are the forerunners in the front of diplomacy.'

Ayatollah Khamenei said that the front of the world arrogance are afraid of the name of Islam, because Islam calls for campaign against tyranny, aggression and occupation citing the concern expressed by the arrogant powers about the Islamic symbols of the uprisings in the Arab world and victory of the Islamists in the aftermath democratic elections.

Ayatollah Khamenei said that the arrogant powers have exercised extensive hostility against the Islamic Republic of Iran and the progress made in science and technology over the past 30 years.

'The young scientists of Iran who have made breakthrough in science and technology including the nuclear and nanotechnology are proud of being a Basij (volunteer forces) member. That's why the arrogant powers have targeted Islam.'

Islamic Revolution Leader said that the current hostility of the arrogant powers against the Islamic Republic of Iran is beyond the diplomatic challenges so that the staff of the diplomatic apparatus must work with reliance upon the Almighty God and firm determination in light of a promise by God that they will be rewarded for serving the truth.

He said that strength of the diplomatic apparatus depends on moral strength of the individuals working for the mission and their inner faith in Almighty God, adding that strong belief of every individual forms the inner strength of every society.

The Islamic Revolution Leader advised the family members of the ambassadors to boost their belief in promises made by God for those serving the truth.

Ayatollah Khamenei said that the current status of the Islamic Republic indicates the promises of Almighty God have come true so that the slogans of the Iranian nation in the early stage of the Islamic Revolution are being heard in the countries which have made enmity with Iran over the past 30 years. 'This is the real indication of progress and national power.'

The Islamic Revolution Leader said that the aspirations of Iranian nation have blossomed out in the Middle East, the Persian Gulf and North Africa proving the God's promise of help for Iranian nation who have tolerated hardship because of enmity of the arrogant powers for paving the path of truth and belief in God.

Ayatollah Khamenei said that Iranian diplomats will come out victorious from the negotiating table when they put forward their logic faithfully so that they will impose their logic on the other side something which is possible with reliance upon blessings of God.

The Islamic Revolution Leader said that the political arrangements in the region, Europe and the entire world have undergone dramatic change which should be monitored by the Foreign Ministry.

He said that the Islamic awakening in the Islamic countries and mainly the Arab world is a reality and revolutions are underway in those countries.

The Islamic Revolution Leader cited the developments in the Arab world in 1960s and in Eastern Europe in 1990s and said that the current revolutions in the region and the chains of protests in the western countries are of high magnitude.

Ayatollah Khamenei said that strong presence of the people in the protest scenes and the United States crackdown are the two basic difference of the current public protests and those took place in 1990s.

'Some believe that the US is behind the current uprisings in the Arab states just like those who believed that the US was behind the Islamic revolution 30 years ago. It proved not right.'

Elaborating on the revolution in Egypt, the Islamic Revolution Leader said that of course the US did not dislike to replace Hosni Mubarak with a democrat and popular figure, but, the fact is that if a real democrat and popular individual takes office in Egypt, he will absolutely oppose the United States and the Zionists.

'What is going on in the region is the Islamic Awakening. Of course, it does not mean that they will follow the model of Iran or the Islamic Republic of Iran,' Ayatollah Khamenei said.

Tehran's Friday Prayers Leader Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati termed US troops exit from Iraq another defeat for Washington, calling for complete withdrawal of the US troops from the entire region.

Nearly nine years after American troops stormed across Iraq's border in a blaze of shock, US officials quietly ended the bloody and bitterly divisive conflict in Iraq on Thursday, but the debate over whether it was worth the cost in money and lives is yet unanswered.

More than 4,500 Americans and more than 100,000 Iraqis killed. Another 32,000 American and more than tens of thousands of Iraqis have been wounded and the war cost US billions of dollars.

Elsewhere in his address, he noted that Iranian people’s turnout on 9th of Iranian month of Day (December 30) in 2009 proved that people's faith in Islamic Revolution protects it from any internal and outside sedition.

Ayatollah Jannati thanked the government for adopting various programs in the education sector as well as the successful execution of the targeted subsidies plan.

On December 30, 2009, millions of people took to the streets of Tehran and other Iranian cities and towns to show their anger over sacrilegious acts committed on Ashura day (December 27, 2009) in the follow-up to the post-election unrest.

The massive rallies against the post-election seditious movements came to be known as the 9th of Day demonstrations.

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei said on Monday that the great occasion of Hajj pilgrimage provides unique opportunity to manifest noble Islam on the basis of conforming politics to Islamic values.

In a meeting with officials in charge of organizing Hajj pilgrimage, Ayatollah Khamenei said that Hajj pilgrimage is a great opportunity and a blessing from God.

Leader of the Islamic Revolution said that optimum use of the Hajj blessing would be thanksgiving to God and that the occasion must reinforce Islamic unity.

IR Leader said that organizers of Hajj pilgrimage from every Muslim nation must explain the noble Islamic teachings to those thirsty for sublimity.

Ayatollah Khamenei said that Islam is a religion for every aspect of life and that the Islamic values must be applied to the politics of the Muslim nations and governments.

IR Leader advised organizers of Hajj pilgrimage to explain realities of Iran to pilgrims from other countries.

"Every Iranian pilgrim must be symbol of a polite individual and faithful in Islamic brotherhood respecting the discipline. This is the practical propagation of the Islamic values," Ayatollah Khamenei added.

Prior to Ayatollah Khamenei's remarks, Representative of the Leader for Hajj Affairs Hojatoleslam Qazi Askar gave a report on planning for Hajj pilgrimage and said that the Supreme Leader's recommendations have been taken into account to upgrade cultural aspect of Hajj.

Interim Friday prayers leader of Tehran, Ayatollah Mohammad Emami Kashani, sais the US call on Iran to return its spy drone, the RQ-170, reveals its rude and arrogant nature.

Delivering his second Friday prayers sermon at Tehran University campus, Ayatollah Kashani said violation of Iran’s air space and territorial integrity by the US spy drone is absolute crime based on the article two, clause four, of the UN charter.

“The article says any sort of threat and use of force against independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of countries is condemned and one of the clear stances of the issue, as has been ratified in 1974, is entering air space of a country by plane or through land,” he added.

Referring to Washington’s contradictory and diversified claims on downing of the US drone, Ayatollah Kashani said the US officials should apologize and admit mistakes if claiming the plane entered the Islamic Republic of Iran’s air space erroneously.

Tehran's interim Friday prayers leader Hojjatoleslam Kazem Sediqi appreciated the IRI Armed Forces for their capturing of a US spy drone over the weekened.

Tehran downed an RQ-170 Sentinel, the US Air Force's stealth drone on Sunday, December 4.

The Iranian Army's electronic warfare unit downed with minimum damage the US RQ-170 Sentinel stealth aircraft which was flying over the Iranian city of Kashmar, some 140 miles (225km) from the Afghan border.

The aircraft had violated Iran's airspace.

Delivering his second Friday prayers sermon, Ayatollah Khatami said the UK has lost face before the Muslim world, especially Iran, so it wants to have the European states and international organizations share such a hefty cost with it.

He said the UK has lost its fame, adding London has times and again suffered deadly blow on Iran’s part, an example of which being recent approval of Majlis to sever ties with the kingdom.

Such a valuable approval is among positive and praiseworthy moves of Majlis, said the cleric, adding that the British people have a 100-year record of treachery against Islamic Iran.

Addressing Iranian naval commanders on Monday, Ayatollah Khamenei said British imperialists are known to convince nations of their ineptitude in order to dominate their resources.

"During the Qajar and Pahlavi eras the country's officials were helpless in the face of the demands of domineering powers … but the Islamic Revolution gifted Iran dignity," IR Leader added.

The following is the full text of the speech delivered on November 28, 2011 by Ayatollah Khamenei the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution to a group of basijis from different parts of the country.

In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds, and peace and greetings upon our Master, Muhammad, and upon his immaculate household, especially the one remaining with Allah on earth.

I am grateful to Allah the Exalted who gave me the opportunity to attend this glorious and excellent meeting. I would like to ask the brothers and sisters who are standing around the square to sit down so that we can have a discussion.

Today has coincided with the first day of the month of Muharram. The identity and nature of Basij are in harmony with the identity of Muharram and Ashura. Basij is proud of being a follower of the school of Ashura. Of course Ashura is the peak of self-sacrifice. The issue of Ashura and what happened to Hussein ibn Ali (a.s.) and his loyal companions have been identified in the entire history and the entire world with self-sacrifice and selfless efforts in the way of God and for a divine cause. But the issue of Ashura is not limited to this. Yes, self-sacrifice and martyrdom are the most prominent and significant aspect of Ashura, but there are also other truths in Ashura. From the beginning of the movement in Medina, the seeds of knowledge and insight were sowed: this is one of the characteristics of the event that happened on Ashura. If a people lack insight, different things will not help them improve their conditions and solve their problems. Therefore, purity, identifying the opportunities, sowing the seeds of a growing historical movement - these are among the important characteristics of Ashura. The event did not end on the noon of Ashura. In fact a movement started in history from the noon of Ashura, a movement whose scope is still widening and expanding and it will continue expanding in the future as well. Imam Hussein (a.s.) brought whatever he had into the arena in order to promote the word of God and save mankind. These are some of the characteristics that one can identify in the event that happened on Ashura.

Basij is following the same path. It is continuing the same movement. It is pursuing the same goals. It is using the same tools and means. Basij is from among the people and it was established for the sake of the people. It was established in order to further the great movement of a mujahid nation. Basij is present in defense, science, art, construction of the country, politics, culture, helping oppressed and helpless people, production, technology, furthering different affairs of the country, sports, international arenas and all righteous actions. This is the movement of Basij: a popular movement for the people, in the hearts of the people, from among the people, from among different social classes, from among women and men - young and old - from different professions. That is to say, an organization was established which was hezbollahi in the real sense of the word.

Basij is political in nature, but it is not intoxicated by political and partisan activities. Basij is a mujahid organization, but it is not without discipline. It is not radical. Basij is deeply pious and religious, but it is not rigid and superstitious. Basij is insightful, but it is not self-centered. Basij is inclusive - and I have recommended maximum inclusion - but it will not compromise principles. Basij is brave. It is the guardian of principles. Basij is a supporter of science, but it is not intoxicated with science. Basij enjoys Islamic characteristics and it is not hypocritical. Basij is involved in improving the world, but it does not have materialistic tendencies. And this is a culture.

The basiji culture includes the knowledge, methods and behaviors which can give rise to great things that guarantee the permanent Islamic movement of a nation on a straight path. This is a school of thought and it is not just an abstract concept: it has a manifestation in the real world. The movement of Basij changed the destiny of Iran and it even went beyond changing the destiny of Iran. From the first day, basijis continued their activities in different revolutionary arenas before and after the Revolution and their movement became permanent. It became a model. It went down in history in the name of the Iranian nation. Today the youth of New York and California are repeating the slogans of the people of Egypt and Tunisia. They are inspired by these nations and they do not deny this. And the youth of Egypt and Tunisia were inspired by Hezbollah, Hamas and Islamic Jihad and they did not hide this. Basijis who were deployed by our magnanimous Imam (r.a.) started this inspiration in the modern world. Everybody learnt how to defeat the icons of materialistic power from our Imam's basijis and from our disabled war veterans, soldiers and selfless people. They learnt how to break idols in the name of God. They leant how to stand firm and how to resist.

Today the existence, movement and goals of Basij make us familiar with these truths. By relying on this culture, these teachings and this spirit, the Islamic Revolution and the revolutionary Iranian nation managed to accomplish many things which were considered impossible and this movement will continue. The hostility of the enemies cannot affect this. Of course the enemy will continue its hostility. We must not have any doubts in this regard. In fact an enemy should not be expected to behave otherwise. However, when we consider the great movement of the Iranian nation from the beginning of the Revolution to the present day, we see that there is a clear path. The Iranian nation is moving forward. It is moving towards the peak. It continues overcoming different challenges in different arenas and the enemies are forced to back down in this confrontation. With this movement, the Iranian nation will definitely achieve victory.

Today Islamic movements and uprisings are being witnessed throughout Islamic and Arab regions. This is exactly what has been expected since thirty years ago by those who were familiar with the nature of the Revolution. And in anticipation of such a thing, the enemies of the Revolution were trembling with fear for thirty years. They lived in fear of the events that have already happened today. Those who were hatching plots against the Islamic Revolution predicted such events and they happened. These events will continue and they will not stop.

Today Muslim people have risen up in the Arab region. They have become aware. They have awakened. The enemies cannot suppress them. They cannot change their path. The movement has already started and it has affected the conditions of the world. The movements that you see today in the western world - in America and in Europe - are indicative of great changes that the world will witness in the future.

We are not surprised by the response of the enemies. We are not surprised by the threats they make, the sanctions they impose and what the arrogant countries have been doing against the Islamic Republic during this time. They know that the Islamic Republic was the source of this movement. They know that it is the resistance of the Iranian nation that has managed to promote the idea in the region that it is possible to stand up against the power of the arrogant powers. The arrogant powers have always resolved their problems through intimidation. They intimidate nations and their leaders. When this technique is revealed and when nations realize that the power of the arrogant countries is superficial and not genuine, the arrogant powers will lose this weapon. And this is what has happened today. Therefore, they are angry and they pressure the Islamic Republic.

Of course they wrongly accuse the Islamic Republic of having started these movements. This is a baseless accusation. There is no need for such actions. The Islamic Republic has been inspirational because of its permanence, resistance and sincerity on this path - and the Iranian nation proved that it is sincere on this path. This inspiration is still there. Nations have awakened and they have found their path. And the enemies are continuing their hostility. Of course these hostilities create certain challenges. The Iranian nation is used to confronting such challenges. By Allah's favor, we will overcome all the challenges that the enemies create and we will achieve victory. Allah the Exalted has pre-ordained the establishment of brilliant Islamic truths in the world and He has also pre-ordained victory for the Iranian nation and ultimately for the Islamic Ummah.

I hope Allah the Exalted will bless all our people, our basijis and all our youth and government officials with the opportunity to continue this path. Everybody should know that they are responsible in these areas. All our government officials and people should know this. The people are present in the arena. The people are completely prepared in different areas and our government officials should appreciate our people and their preparedness. Our government officials should carry out their responsibilities in the three branches of government in the best possible way so that our nation can move forward in a coherent way.

Undoubtedly these Islamic movements around the world of Islam are permanent and progressive movements. Nations are awakening one after the other. The puppets of the arrogant powers will leave the scene one after the other and by Allah's favor, the power and glory of Islam will increase on a daily basis.

Dear God, help us be worthy of these great blessings. Make us be thankful for these great blessings. Dear God, enlighten our hearts with the light of Your love and knowledge and with the love and knowledge of your saints. Make us benefit from the prayers of the Imam of the Age (may our souls be sacrificed for his sake).

"Basij is political rather than politicized or partisan; it is Mujahid but not extremist; it is deeply devout but not fanatic; it is prudent but not self-absorbed; it seeks to a make the most possible bonds in society but never compromises on principles; it follows Islamic ethics but not hypocritically; it is actively engaged in developing the world but steers away from worldly whims," Ayatollah Khamenei said.

Ayatollah Khamenei described the attitude of Basij as an attitude which encompasses the sort of awareness, methods and mindsets which may help create great associations within the nations and guarantee their direct movement.

Ayatollah Khamenei said Basij both can guarantee the fate of Iran and beyond, adding that Imam Khomeini and the great Iranian nation taught the world nations the lesson of perseverance and to break the phony legends facing them. Ayatollah Khamenei said similar slogans are chanted in different US cities and regional countries, helping prove that the thought and culture of the Iranian nation has been materialized and presented as a model for others.
