Tree planting day

Tree planting day

March 6 is tree planting day in the Islamic Republic of Iran. Iranian people are encouraged in this day by customs or social institutes to plant at least a tree to mark the day.

Iranians know well about the role trees play in the environment and importance of the participation of the people in planting ornamental and commercial trees and preservation of the forests.

Attention to the importance of trees date back to many years ago. From ancient times in Iran planting trees and other vegetables has been of particular interest and importance, just as the symbol of the tree of life or Sarv (Cypress) is present in ancient images and ruins like the Achaemenid main masonry in Persepolis.

Because it is evergreen, Sarv has always had a particular importance in Iran. There is a 4000-year-old Sarv in Yazd province central Iran.

Trees have a special place in Iranian art including in Miniature and textiles designs.

The predominant religion of the Iranians (Islam) too has urgent calls for tree planting. Muslims are required by Islam to keep the environment around them pure and clean. True Muslims are those who appreciate the beauty surrounding them. There are many words by the Noblest Messenger of Allah and his immaculate descendants about the merits of planting trees and other acts that benefit people.

Hazrat Muhammad, the last messenger of Allah has said, "Whenever Muslims plant a tree, they will earn the reward of charity because of the food that comes from it; and likewise what is stolen from it, what the wild beasts eat out of it, what the birds eat out of it, and what people take from it is charity for them".

The Messenger has said, "Muslims will always earn the reward of charity for planting a tree, sowing a crop and then birds, humans, and animals eat from it."
