Norouz celebrations

Some ten senior officials from regional countries are to attend the global Norouz celebrations, it was announced here on Monday.

Deputy Head of the Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization Shahbaz Yazdani told IRNA that some ten presidents, deputy foreign ministers and ambassadors from regional countries celebrating Norouz are to attend the celebrations to be held on March 27.

The celebrations will include special programs and various performances by Iranian and foreign artists, he said, adding that inauguration of the permanent headquarters of Norouz global celebrations at Sa’dabad Cultural Complex will be among programs of the one-day event.

Yazdani further announced that the participating delegates will also help compile Norouz Charter which will be later presented to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) for registration.

Commemoration of Norouz tradition as a cultural and spiritual heritage of Iran and a few of its neighboring countries and attracting more foreign tourists to the country are among the main objectives of holding the celebrations, the official said.

The first global Norouz Festival was held in Iran on March 27, 2010, in the presence of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Norouz tradition was registered at UNESCO in 2010.
