Friday prayers leader of Tehran, Ayatollah Mohammad Emami Kashani, says foreigners planned to exploit the Experts Assembly election of Iran in their own favor and politically abuse it but to no avail.

"Enemies had counted on the Experts Assembly election, trying to politically abuse it. Two candidates ran the race: (Former Experts Assembly Head, Ayatollah Akbar) Hashemi Rafsanjani used to say he would abandon candidacy in Ayatollah (Mohammad-Reza) Mahdavi’s favor.

The post, which had nothing but pain and trouble, was hence delegated to our dear brother Ayatollah Mahdavi Kani so sincerely. Hashemi Rafsanjani and Mahdavi Kani are two noble religious and Islamic figures of the country and are respected by the nation,” said Ayatollah Kashani in his second Friday prayers sermon to large groups of Tehrani Friday prayers worshipers at Tehran University campus.

He went on to say that on Tuesday, when the Experts Assembly election was held, enemies remained empty handed because they imagined that two camps in the Assembly would start rallying each other and they would thus be able to fish in the troubled water.

He said the Assembly comprises scientific and religious dignitaries of the country, so it is of high importance.
