Office of the Islamic Revolution Leader Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei urged all Iranians on Monday to assist the drought-ravaged Somalia.
The Office said in a statement that the Horn of Africa's countries, Somalia in particular, were witnessing one of the painful humanitarian crisis created by drought and famine and that lives of millions of people there are at risk.
The Office blamed inaction and negligence of the international organizations for failue to save children, women and the elderly from starvation.
Meanwhile, Somali President Sheikh Sharif Ahmed on Monday hailed Iran’s humanitarian aid to his people.
He made the remarks in a meeting with members of a delegation sent by Iran’s Red Crescent Society who carried Iranians’ humanitarian aid to the famine-stricken people of Somalia.
He thanked Iranians for dispatching foodstuff and medicine to the hunger-stricken nation and said the humanitarian aid could solve a part of problems his people are suffering from.
Iran’s Red Crescent Society has so far dispatched two shipments of aid including foodstuff, medicine and other crucial items to Somalia.
More than 10 million people across the Horn of Africa are affected by the drought, including nearly 3 million in Somalia.
