Leader: IRI to respond in kind to any attack
2012/03/20 - 20:51
Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei said the Iranian nation will respond in kind to any possible attack on its soil by the US or the Zionist regime.
“We do not possess a nuclear weapon and we will not build one, but we will defend ourselves against any aggression, whether by the US or the Zionist regime, with the same level [of force],” Ayatollah Khamenei said on Tuesday in an address to large crowds of people in the northwestern Iranian city of Mashhad on the occasion of Nowruz (Iranian new year).
IR leader said Washington and its allies are well aware that Iran is neither in possession nor in pursuit of nuclear weapons and the real reason behind their enmity against Iran is their thirst for the nation’s oil.
“Global arrogance chiefs, those in positions of power and wealth, and their agents in our region are trying to intimidate the Iranian nation with all their financial, propaganda and political resources,” Ayatollah Khamenei added.
Leader of the Islamic Revolution, however, said all of the plots of Iran’s enemies were thwarted in the previous Iranian calendar year (ended on March 19) courtesy of the forward movement and wise decisions of the Iranian nation.
Though the ill-wishers struggled to show that Iranians are incompetent, the nation has repeatedly demonstrated that “it can”, Ayatollah Khamenei said.

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei has congratulated the nation on the occasion of Nowruz and named the new year as the year of “National Production, Supporting Iranian Capital and Labor.”
Ayatollah Khamenei lauded the country's great accomplishments during the previous year, saying that the past year was eventful for the world, the region and Iran.

“Those countries in the region that the Islamic Republic has always supported have achieved great goals, [some] dictators were overthrown and constitutions based on Islam were passed in some countries.”
“The number one enemy of the Islamic Ummah and the Iranian nation, namely the Zionist regime has been surrounded,” IR Leader added.
Leader of the Islamic Revolution said Iran’s enemies started their hostile measures against the country from the beginning of the previous year, and the Iranian nation, officials, people could counter these sanctions by adopting prudent measures.
Ayatollah Khamenei said “Economic Jihad”, which was the slogan of the previous year, is never-ending, adding that one important aspect of economic issues is “domestic production.”

Supreme Leader’s Norouz Message
Supreme Leader’s Norouz Message
20/03/2012
The following is the full text of the message issued on March 20, 2012 by Ayatollah Khamenei the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution on the occasion of Norouz [Iranian New Year].
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O Conqueror of hearts and sight,
O Planner of night and day,
O Transformer of power and circumstances,
Change our condition to the best of conditions.
Dear Allah, protect Your representative, Hujjat ibn al-Hasan. Your greetings be upon him and his ancestors now as well as at all times, an Imam, a guardian, a leader, a helper, a proof and the source until the time You establish him on earth in obedience (to You) and cause him to live in it for a long time.
Dear Allah, bestow on him what enlightens his eyes and his heart (from among the things) about himself, about his descendants, about his followers, about his special ones, about his common ones, about his enemies and about all people of the world.
I would like to congratulate all my dear countrymen across the nation, all Iranians who are living in different parts of the world and all other nations who celebrate Norouz [Iranian New Year], on the occasion of Norouz and the arrival of the new year. In particular, I would like to congratulate the honorable families of our martyrs, our disabled war veterans and their families, all our war veterans and all those who are active in different arenas in the country. I wish and I pray that Allah the Exalted will bestow joy and happiness on the people of Iran in this new year and that He will frustrate the goals and efforts of the ill-wishers of our nation.
The year that came to an end - the year 1390 - was one of the eventful years in the world, in the region and in our country. In general, one can see that these events ended in favor of the Iranian nation and they furthered the goals of our nation. Those in western countries who are nurturing malevolent goals in their minds about the Iranian nation, Iran and Iranians are faced with different problems. In the region, the nations that have been supported by the Islamic Republic have achieved great goals. Certain dictators were removed from power. The constitutions that were ratified in certain countries were based on Islam. The archenemy of the Islamic Ummah and the Iranian nation - namely the Zionist regime - was besieged. Inside the country, the year 1390 was a year in which the power of the Iranian nation was revealed in the real sense of the word. On the political front, the people of Iran exhibited great presence - both in the rallies on the 22nd of Bahman and in the elections on the 12th of Esfand - and they set a new standard for national power in the history of the region. We have had few cases of such presence and such standards in the past.
In spite of all the enmity, in spite of all the propaganda and in spite of all the hostile and malevolent attacks, last year, the Iranian people managed to show and prove their presence on the scene, their dynamism and their preparedness in different scientific, social, political and economic arenas with all their heart. Thankfully, in spite of all the hardships, we made great achievements last year. As I have pointed out before, the conditions were the conditions of Badr and Khaybar - that is to say, conditions in which we had to accept and overcome challenges and hardships.
It was announced at the beginning of last year that the year 1390 would be named "The Year of Economic Jihad". Although vigilant and aware people knew that the name, the orientation and the slogan was a necessity for the year 1390, the subsequent efforts by the enemies throughout the year proved this necessity. From the beginning of last year, our enemies started their hostile movement against the Iranian nation on the economic front. But with intelligent moves, the Iranian nation, our government officials, our people and different organizations of the country managed to confront these sanctions and their efforts were successful to a large extent in countering the effect of these sanctions and the enemy's move. The year 1390 was the year of great scientific activities. By Allah's favor, in another speech, I will explain to our honorable people some of our scientific and economic advances and different other endeavors we made last year. The year 1390 was full of challenges. It was full of dynamism. It was a year in which the Iranian nation managed to overcome the existing challenges, by Allah's grace.
A new year has begun for us and God willing, the Iranian nation will manage to achieve many advances through its efforts and vigilance and by relying on Allah the Exalted. My conclusion - which is based on the reports I have received and on the consultation I have had with aware and well-informed people - is that economic matters will be the important challenge this year, which starts from today. There can be no end to economic jihad. Economic jihad and jihad-like presence in economic arenas is a necessity for the Iranian nation.
This year I will analyze the issues related to economic jihad. One important portion of economic issues is related to the issue of domestic production. If we manage to increase and push ahead with domestic production in an appropriate way by relying on God's grace, on the firm determination of the people and on the efforts of our government officials, undoubtedly a major portion of the enemy's efforts will be frustrated. Therefore, the issue of domestic production is a significant part of economic jihad. If the Iranian nation manages to solve the problem of domestic production and move forward in this arena by relying on its determination, will power, awareness and vigilance, by relying on the cooperation and assistance of its government officials and by relying on accurate planning, undoubtedly it will completely overcome the challenges that the enemy has created. Therefore, the issue of domestic production is an important issue.
If we manage to increase our domestic production, the issue of inflation will be resolved, the issue of unemployment will be resolved and our economy will be strengthened in the real sense of the word, which will disappoint the enemy. When the enemy becomes disappointed, his efforts and machinations will come to an end.
Therefore, I call on all our government officials, all the people who are active on the economic front and all our honorable people to give rise to a boom in domestic production this year. Therefore, this year's slogan is "National Production and Supporting Iranian Labor and Capital". We should be able to support the labor of Iranian laborers and the capital of Iranian investors, and the only way to make this happen is to strengthen national production. The role that the government should play in this regard is to support our domestic industrial and agricultural products and the role of our investors and laborers is to strengthen the cycle of production and bolster production work. And the role of the people - which I believe is the most important role - is to consume our domestic products. We should become used to consuming every product that is produced inside the country. In all areas including the areas related to daily consumption as well as larger and more important areas, we should create a cultural norm among ourselves and consider it our obligation to seriously avoid consuming foreign products the equivalents of which are also produced inside the country. We are hoping that with this orientation and attitude, once again the Iranian nation will manage to overcome the machinations of the enemies and the tricks of the ill-wishers in the economic arena in the year 1391.
I pray to Allah the Exalted to bestow success on the Iranian nation on this front and all other fronts. I pray to Allah the Exalted to make the soul of our magnanimous Imam (r.a.) happy and satisfied with us. I pray to Allah the Exalted to associate the pure souls of our honorable martyrs with His saints in the hereafter.
Greetings be upon you and Allah's mercy and blessings

Tehran's Interim Friday prayers leader Ayatollah Mohammad Emami-Kashani criticized Saudi Arabia's double standard towards the regional uprisings.
"There is no difference between Bahraini nation's uprising and Tunisian, Egyptian or Libyan uprisings,” he added.
"Saudis claim that Bahraini movements are against Arabs and Islam. What do they mean by Arabs? Do they mean Arab governments under the influence of hegemonic powers and the Zionists?” Emami-Kashani questioned.
Ayatollah Emami-Kashani warned also the revolutionized countries to be careful about the hijacking of their revolution by anti-Muslim hegemonic powers.

Supreme Leader’s Speech to Members of Assembly of Experts
Supreme Leader’s Speech to Members of Assembly of Experts
08/03/2012
The following is the full text of the speech delivered onMarch 8, 2012 by Ayatollah Khamenei the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution in a meeting with the chairman and members of the Assembly of Experts.
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I would like to welcome the honorable gentlemen, the esteemed members of the Islamic Republic’s Assembly of Experts. I would also like to express my gratitude to the gentlemen who made certain points in this meeting, which shows that they are sensitive to the domestic issues and events and that they feel responsible towards the future of the country. I hope Allah the Exalted will bestow success on all of you. I hope Allah the Exalted will help all of us make efforts with pure intentions in order to fulfill the responsibilities that have been placed on our shoulders. Whether our efforts will be effective or not is up to God. Whether our efforts will be accepted or not depends on God’s mercy and generosity. However, all of us should make efforts – no matter where we work – to move things forward.
Before discussing the points I have written down, I deem it necessary to thank our honorable people for their timely and highly effective presence in the parliamentary elections. Our dear people did their best for the elections and they brought their power – which originates from their religious faith and insight – into the arena of confronting the camp of the enemies and opponents of our country and people. Anybody who knows what efforts the enemies made during the past few months in order to discourage the people from voting on the 12th of Esfand, anybody who knows how much money they spent, anybody who knows how many people they recruited, anybody who knows how many plots they designed, anybody who knows how hard they tried in their think tanks to influence our people’s thoughts and actions with their carefully prepared statements, should know how great the achievement of the people was and how great the popular movement was.
First, it is necessary to be thankful to God because these things are the result of God’s will, mercy and grace. Second, it is necessary to thank the people with all one’s heart and soul because divine blessings do not come to a particular country and its people without good reasons. We pray to God, “Dear God, I ask You for the requirements of Your mercy.”We should prepare the ground for divine blessings and then we will be showered with divine grace and blessings. Our people prepared the ground for divine blessings. The presence of the people on the scene, their resistance in the face of the enemies’ attacks, their insight and other such characteristics prepared the ground for divine blessings. Again, it is Allah the Exalted who gives people the opportunity to prepare the ground for His grace and blessings. We are thankful to Allah the Exalted for this opportunity and we prostrate before Him in gratitude. And we are truly grateful to our people and we hope that Allah the Exalted will fully reward them.
The first point that I would like to discuss is related to the issue of elections. Elections are not fleeting events: they are significant events. Therefore, we need to reflect on the issue of elections. First of all, elections are an important pillar of the Islamic system. Religious democracy is founded on elections. Without elections, there will be no democracy. Elections are the standard of relying on the people: a concrete, tangible and measurable standard. Therefore, anybody who firmly believes in the Islamic system considers taking part in the elections as his responsibility. Such a person takes part in the elections even though he might have objections about certain things, about a particular election or about a particular form of elections. This is a responsibility. Therefore, all those who entered the arena of elections throughout the country fulfilled this obligatory responsibility. They carried out their duty. They showed their accurate understanding. This accurate understanding shows that the issue of elections is about a pillar of the Islamic Republic. We cannot stop voting simply because we have objections to certain individuals or certain things. Such objections are not a good reason to stop voting. This is an essential point.
One outcome of this election was that it dispelled illusions: of course, elections often have this outcome. Elections are like an awakening slap across the face of the individuals who wallow in their illusions and fantasies. Elections are a slap across the face of those who cherish illusions about the future of the Islamic Republic, about the essence of the system, about the people, about the country, about the enemy. Elections put an end to their illusions and open their eyes to the truth.
Two days ago, I heard the American President has said that they are not thinking of going to war with Iran. This is very good. This is a good and wise statement. This is an exit from illusion. He has also said that they will bring the people of Iran to their knees with sanctions. This is an illusion. The exit from illusion in the case of not going to war is good, but remaining under an illusion regarding the sanctions will harm them. When a person builds his calculations on illusions rather than realities, it is obvious that he will fail in his plans that are based on these calculations. And this is what they are doing.
It is one year now that they have been imposing what they call “crippling sanctions”. Of course, we have been under sanctions for 33 years. They said the purpose of the so-called crippling sanctions was to separate the people from the Islamic system, but they saw that the people went to the ballot boxes and voted for the Islamic system. Every vote for any candidate is a vote for the Islamic system. The people proved this. I described elections as a slap: there are different kinds of slaps. One of kind of slap is awakening – it has an awakening effect. This parliamentary election was of this kind.
The second point – which I mentioned in passing earlier – is that elections show that the people trust the government. After the controversial and eventful elections of the year 1388, certain people predicted that the people would lose their trust in the government and that they would no longer go to the ballot boxes to vote. This election was a decisive and clear response to this wrong assumption and inference. The people showed their objection to such inferences. They showed that they are committed to the Islamic system. They showed that they trust the Islamic system. They showed that they will enter the arena and respond to the government’s call which invites them to determine the plans through the ballot boxes. As I said, every vote is in fact a vote for the Islamic Republic. The vast majority of the people who stepped into the arena gave rise to one of the highest turnout rates over the past 33 years. After the passage of 33 years, the people step into the arena like this, which is indicative of their full trust in the Islamic Republic.
The insight and intellectual level of the people were another obvious point about this election. The people entered the arena of elections after having analyzed the situation. They had their own analyses. You saw that whoever was asked why he or she had taken part in the election – including the youth who were voting for the first time as well as old men and women – he or she would present a reason and an analysis. They did not say, “It is an election and we have to come and vote.” No, they would explain why they were voting. They would say, “Because the enemy is lying in ambush, because the hungry wolves are lying in ambush.” By Allah’s favor, I will explain in another speech how the enemies lay in ambush in order to devour us, thinking that the Islamic Republic was a lamb that could be devoured. They do not know that the Islamic Republic is a lion and thatit cannot be approached. The people saw the opposing camp. They saw the enmities. They saw the objectives of the spiteful enemy. As a result, they entered the arena with insight and clear analyses. This is a very important point.
Another point that is related to this election is that the Majlis that has emerged out of this election has a heavy responsibility to shoulder. This is always the case. Any elected government official at any level has a responsibility thatis as important as the election through which they were elected. The Majlis that will be formed will have to shoulder a heavy responsibility considering current conditions, the uproar that the enemy has cause and the presence of the people in this arena. The brothers and sisters who will come together to form this Majlis in the near future – both the ones who have already been elected and the ones who will be elected during the second round – should know what a heavy responsibility has been placed on their shoulders. They should come and fulfill their responsibilities with wisdom and acumen.
The country is as important as the laws that are passed. In all areas, we need laws that can remove the obstacles. Members of the Majlis should look at the realities on the ground. They should identify the needs and on the basis of the needs they have identified, they should provide our government officials with the appropriate legal solutions. The laws that are passed should remove the obstacles. A law that creates obstacles and blocks the paths, a law that cannot be implemented, a law that creates many problems, a law that contradicts itself – such laws are useless. It is not enough to simply draft and pass legislation. We should know that laws should be drafted in a judicious way and that they should remove the obstacles.
Government officials should be aware who they are choosing – for which needs and purposes – and what their qualifications and characteristics are. They should both be careful and just. I do not advise them to be extremely careful at the cost of causing injustice in certain cases. They should be careful, but at the same time they should also observe justice. They should move forward in an intelligent and sincere way. Sincerity is indeed the basis. Mr. Mahdavi rightly pointed out in his statements that the weight and influence of Imam Khomeini’s (r.a.) words and plans was mostly due to his sincerity. Yes, he was a truly sincere man. He was the embodiment of sincerity. If there is sincerity, our duties will be carried out successfully. The government officials in the judiciary and the Majlis, the clergy and those who are in the military or different other organizations should know that what is necessary is to identify our obligations and work hard to fulfill our obligations: we must not let other considerations affect our work.
Of course, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the officials in charge of the elections. Mr. Yazdi pointed out that the Guardian Council has been thanked for its efforts. When you see the volume, subtlety and difficulty of the work they are doing, you cannot help feeling appreciative in your heart. I told Mr. Jannati and certain other gentlemen that whenever I remember the work you are doing, my heart is filled with respect for you. I prayed many times to Allah the Exalted to give more strength to all those who are in charge the elections: members of Assembly of Experts, the government, the Ministry of Interior, the officials in charge of security matters who managed to ensure the security of the elections, the officials in charge of public relations, the IRIB and others. What they did was truly great and outstanding. They managed to carry out this great duty and this heavy and vital work in the best possible way.
Islamic democracy is our paradigm. In Islamic democracy, Islam is the essence and the soul. There must be no deviations from Islam. Currently, there are no deviations and by Allah’s favor, there will be no deviations in the future either. Whendrafting laws and when assigning individuals to different positions, our standard should be Islam. The frameworkand the method of management is democracy. That is to say, it is the people who step into the arena to make decisions, people who firmly believe in Islam.Although they might not appear to certain people to be committed to Islam and the Islamic system, they are truly committed and they truly love Islam.
The experience of the past 33 years has shown that Islam can bring about dignity for a country. It can make a nation feel proud. It can delineate good goals. It can smooth certain paths towards these goals. It can give rise to a scientific movement. It can give rise to a technological and industrial movement. It can give rise to a movement towards piety and ethics. It can make a nation feel proud in front of other nations. These things have already happened in our country. These are great achievements that have already been accomplished in the country thanks to Islam. Islam is still the essence and content of the movement of our system and democracy is the form and the framework. Islam and democracy are not separate from one another. That is to say, democracy itself originates from Islam.
It is wrong to say that we have learnt democracy from westerners. The exterior form is the same, but our democracy has its roots in a different kind of religious understanding and a different world view. We believe that there must be respect for human beings. We consider the votes of the people as valuable and we consider their presence as a tool to achieve divine goals, which is impossible in the absence of the people.
Westerners act in a different way. Of course, we have our own frameworks and they have their own frameworks, but their frameworks are oppressive. When a person expresses his objection to the myth of Holocaust and announced that he does not believe it, they throw him into prison. They sentence him to prison for denying a fictitious event. Even if we assume that the event is not fictitious, even if we assume that it is a true story, is it a crime to deny a true historical event? If a person is not convinced of the truth of the Holocaust and he denies the story or expresses doubt about it, he is thrown into prison. This is what they are doing in the European countries that claim to be civilized. If somebody proteststhe Holocaust, expresses doubt about it or denies it, European courts convict him in a court of law. However, when they openly insult the Holy Prophet of Islam (s.w.a.), that prominent man of the entire history of mankind, when they insult what 1.5 billion Muslims hold sacred, nobody is allowed to protest against their actions. Notice how wrong and disgraceful their frameworksare. This is their framework: if somebody wears hijab to university or work, she becomes a criminal. It is still a framework, but it is wrong and twisted. It goes against human nature. It goes against correct human understanding. Our frameworks are divine frameworks. On the basis of what sharia and religion teach us, we are opposed to corruption. We are opposed to immorality. We are opposed to different kinds of human deviations. We believe that it is necessary to stand up against these deviations. We believe that it is necessary to learn the correct ways of life from Islam, the Holy Quran and divine revelations. This is our framework. This is religious democracy. This is our paradigm.
If Muslim nations are interested in what the Islamic Republic has to say and what its claims are, they should know that we will not abandon Islam. We believe that it is obligatory to observe divine command and sharia in all of our daily life affairs and our efforts are focused on achieving this goal. And religious democracy is our framework in this arena. The people should step in and vote. It is the people who should elect the law-makers who are supposed to pass legislation on the basis of these things. It is the people who should elect those who are supposed to implement the laws. Everything is decided by the peoplewith honor and dignity.
I hope Allah the Exalted makes us successful in following this path and protecting ourselves against deviations. I hope Allah the Exalted enables us to achieve these lofty goals and helps us benefit from the prayers of the Imam of the Age (may our souls be sacrificed for his sake).
Greetings be upon you and Allah’s mercy and blessings

Leader: Oil must be used for IRI's progress
Leader: Oil must be used for IRI's progress
2012/03/12 - 19:00
Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei said on Monday that oil must be used to prop up progress and economic development.
IR Leader made the remarks during a three-hour visit to research center of Oil Industry.
Ayatollah Khamenei appreciated relentless efforts of the researchers to develop technology in oil and gas sector.
"The valuable and prominent activities in this center created honor for Iranian nation," Ayatollah Khamenei added.
In reference to his visit to South Pars Oil and Gas fields development projects last year, Ayatollah Khameneisaid, "At the end of the year designated as the Year of Economic Jihad, a visit to the research center about oil and gas indicated that the sector has effective impact on the economic progress.
Leader of the Islamic Revolution said that the outlook about the oil revenues must undergo a major shift and that the oil revenues must not account for source of income for the annual spending of the government. "The revenues must be spent for the progress and economic strength of Iran."
Ayatollah Khamenei recommended the officials to go ahead with the new strategy and the outlook to the oil revenues.
"Spending the oil revenues for the routine works of the country is unwise and is a major loss. We must regard the oil revenues as a heritage and treasury and adopt planning to make it a lasting capital. So, the revenues and the oil reserves will help bolster national economy."
IR Leader said that setting up National Fund for Development is a measure according to which 20 percent of the oil revenues must be deposited every year to support the oil industry. "This work has been initiated and must continue."
Ayatollah Khamenei said that under the current situation, the oil revenues turn as weak point to the oil producing countries, because, they sell oil in accord with policymaking of the western oil companies and do not make efforts to acquire advanced technology and indigenous know-how.
"The pockets of the rulers are being filled, but, there is no real interest, because, their oil reserves will finish someday and they will remain an underdeveloped country."
IR Leader said that the decision making on the amount of the oil output and the sale must go along national interest.
"Of course, we have made progress in this respect and God willing Iran will fulfill this policy in future and will set a pattern for the fellow oil producing countries."

Simin Daneshvar
Simin Daneshvar
Eminent author and translator Simin Daneshvar, known as the first Iranian female novelist, died at her home in Tehran. She was 90.
Daneshvar died of natural causes associated with old age however a recent bout with a bad case of the flu also aggravated her health problems, literary critic and scholar Ali Dehbashi told the Persian service of Fars News Agency.
Her funeral procession will take place on Sunday, starting from the Vahdat Hall and she will be buried in the Artists Section of Tehran’s Behesht-e Zahra Cemetery, he added.
Daneshvar is mostly known as the author of social-historical novel “Savushun” (1970) which has been translated into 17 languages around the world.
In “Savushun”, she chronicles the life of a Persian family during the Allied occupation of Iran during World War II in Shiraz. The story is narrated through the eyes of Zari, a young wife and mother, who copes with her idealistic and uncompromising husband while struggling with her desire for traditional family life and her need for individual identity.
Born in Shiraz in 1921, Simin Daneshvar got her Ph.D. in Persian Language and Literature from the University of Tehran. At age 27, she published her first book titled “Extinguished Fire” a collection of short stories, first-ever written by an Iranian female author.
At the same year, she married a controversial author of the time, Jalal Al-e Ahmad. Although she was always known for her independent literary characteristics, her marriage gave her an opportunity to participate in literary coterie of that time visiting Sadeq Hedayat and Nima Yushij.
Al-e Ahmad died suddenly in 1969 at the age of 48. The childless couple talked about problems brought to their social as well as family life by the infertility problems in two separate books; “A Stone upon a Grave” by Jalal Al-e Ahmad and “Jalal’s Sunset” by Simin Daneshvar.
“A City Like Heaven”, “To Whom Shall I Say Hello?”, “Wandering Island” and “Wandering Cameleer” are other works. The last part of the trilogy “The Wandering Mountain” has not published yet.
Daneshvar, who was the first director of the Iranian Writers’ Association, has also penned a collection of articles under the title of “Art Recognition and Admiration”.
She has also translated “The Chocolate Soldier” by George Bernard Shaw, “Enemies” by Anton Chekov, “Cry, The Beloved Country” by Alan Paton, and “The Scarlet Letter” by Nathaniel Hawthorne into Persian.
In a message, the head of the Cultural Committee of the Iranian Majlis Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel expressed his condolences to literati and her family over the demise of Simin Daneshvar.

Iranians show trust in Islamic system in polls
Iranians show trust in Islamic system in polls
2012/03/08 - 18:20
Iranians have overwhelmingly demonstrated their trust in the Islamic system through their massive turnout in the March 2 parliamentary elections, Islamic Revolution Leader Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei said on Thursday.
The Leadership Assembly of experts is responsible to oversee the performance of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution.
"On March 2, people have indeed voted for the Islamic system," Ayatollah Khamenei said in a meeting with Head of the Leadership Assembly of Experts Ayatollah Mohammad Reza Mahdavi Kani and the body’s members.
Praising the massive presence of Iranians in the 9th parliamentary elections, Ayatollah Khamenei said, "People’s vote was also an awakening slap in the face of those who have been hallucinating about the nature of the Islamic establishment and its future as well as the people and enemy."
Ayatollah Khamenei stated that elections are a main pillar for the Islamic establishment and noted that the religious democracy is based on elections.
So, every individual who believes in the Islamic establishment, feels duty-bound to attend elections even if he/she has any criticisms about certain issues, IR Leader added.
Ayatollah Khamenei further pointed to the recent claims by US President Barack Obama, who announced that he is not thinking of a war against Iran, and said such remarks are good and indicate a step out of delusions.
However, the US president has said his country seeks to bring the Iranian people to their knees by means of sanctions. This particular part of his speech demonstrates his continued illusion about the issue, said Ayatollah Khamenei.
Leader of the Islamic Revolution stressed that the continuation of such illusions will backfire on US officials and fail them in their calculations.

Interview with Supreme Leader after Voting in 9th Parliamentary Elections
Interview with Supreme Leader after Voting in 9th Parliamentary Elections
02/03/2012
After casting his ballot in the early hours of the 9th parliamentary election, the Supreme Leader of Islamic Revolution was asked to comment on the election.
"In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to you journalists as well as other people who have made efforts for the elections. You have played a significant role in attracting attention to the significance of elections which are held in the country every year or every other year. May God bestow success on you.
I do not have a new recommendation. I believe this is an obligation and a right for all of us. We should make use of this right and we should fulfill this obligation. I also believe that as is the case with praying, the earlier you vote, the more the spiritual value. I do not want to say that this is based on sharia the way prayers are. From a rational perspective, when a person votes early on Friday, he or she will no longer have it on his or her mind while doing other things, as opposed to leaving everything to the last minute when the polling stations are crowded and there is always the chance and concern that one might not be able to vote. Therefore, the people should come to the polling stations and write the names of thirty people on their ballots. Our dear people should try to fulfill this duty and they will make their intentions pure.
Of course, you know that elections have always been important for our country and the Islamic Republic. This is because elections always play a determining role. They always reveal a certain truth about our country, which carries certain messages for our friends and our enemies in the world. This has always been the case and whenever this characteristic has been strengthened, the importance of elections has been increased. Today is one of those times. Thirty three years has passed since the victory of the Revolution. In the revolutions that have taken place throughout the world, the people grew tired and disappointed over time and their path and goals changed. However, during this time, our people have followed a straight path until today with firm determination. This is a very important event: after the passage of three decades, the people showed that they still enjoy the same characteristics. Moreover, you see and hear that today there is a lot aggression against the Iranian nation. By causing uproar, the arrogant powers that have been defeated and slapped across the face in many cases, want to say that they are not weak and frustrated. What is this uproar about? The issue of Iran is a significant issue, so they create uproar about Iran: the issue of sanctions, the issue of human rights and the other things that they constantly repeat. Because there is a lot of uproar and a lot of verbal threats against the Iranian nation, the Iranian nation is in a more sensitive position and its actions can speak louder than its words. As you know, actions speak louder than words. Our nation can take actions. The larger the voter turnout, the better it is for the future, prestige and security of the country. This is why this parliamentary election is so important. May God bestow success on all of you."

Parvin E’tesami
Parvin E’tesami
Congress on the noted Iranian poetess, Parvin E’tesami, will be held at the international level for the first time in March 2013, said secretary of the seminar commemorating the poet.
Addressing a news conference on the seminar, Asadollah Moazzami-Goudarzi added that the Seminar on Parvin Etesami marking her 105th birth anniversary was earlier scheduled to be held on March 15 but it will be held on March 12.
The seminar will seek to review her poems from a new perpective, he said, noting many works have so far been written on her life and works.
Holding the seminar is, indeed, honoring the status of Iranian women, he said, noting that some 70 articles have been submitted to the secretariat of the seminar.
An exhibition of documents and photos pertaining to the poetess will also be held concurrent with the seminar, Moazzami said.
Parvin E'tesami was born in Tabriz in 1907. Her family moved to Tehran early in her life, and in addition to the formal schooling, she obtained a solid understanding of Arabic and classical Persian literature from her father.
She studied at the American Girls College in Tehran and graduated in 1924 from the Iran Bethel, an American high school for girls.
Afterwards, she taught for a while at that school.
In 1934, she was married to a cousin of her father and moved to the city of Kermanshah. But the marriage only lasted for ten weeks and she returned Tehran again. She died three years after her father’s death and was buried near her father in Qom.
Parvin was around seven or eight years old when her poetic ability was revealed. The first edition of her Divan (anthology of poems) comprised 156 poems and appeared in 1935. The famous poet and scholar Mohammad Taqi Bahar wrote an introduction to her work.
In her short life, she managed to achieve great fame amongst Iranians. Parvin's poetry follows the classical Persian tradition both in form and substance.

Elections play key role in IRI's security
Elections play key role in IRI's security
2012/03/02 - 18:41
Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei said a high turnout of the Iranian nation in the 9th Majlis elections will play an effective role in maintaining Iran’s security and prestige.
Ayatollah Khamenei made the remarks after casting his vote for the 9th parliamentary elections at a polling station in Tehran on Friday.
IR Leader emphasized that voting is a duty to be fulfilled and a right of all the Iranian people.
Ayatollah Khamenei added that elections have always been significant and played a determining role for the country and the Islamic establishment, and have always conveyed a message to foes and friends.
Leader of the Islamic Revolution stated that the arrogant powers are spreading propaganda and threats against the Islamic Republic to deny their failures.
They resort to impose sanctions and raise human rights issues against Iran, IR Leader added.
However, the vigorous participation of the Iranian nation in the elections will send a message to hegemonic powers and will be beneficial for the country’s future.
The 9th Majlis elections since the victory of the 1979 Islamic Revolution officially started across Iran at 08:00 a.m. local time (0430 GMT) on Friday.
Iran's Guardian Council, charged with supervising the elections, approved the competence of 3,454 candidates.
On February 21, Iran’s Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad-Najjar said that 48,288,799 people are eligible to cast their ballots in the Majlis vote.
Over 5,400 had registered to contest the 290 parliamentary seats. More than 47,000 polling stations will operate nationwide during the elections.

9th Majlis election is another epic: Seddiqi
9th Majlis election is another epic: Seddiqi
3/2/2012 5:53:42 PM
Tehran’s provisional Friday prayers leader, Hojjatoleslam Kazem Seddiqi, said that the Ninth Parliamentary (Majlis) elections is recurrence of epic incidents in the history of Islamic Republic of Iran that blinded the enemies.
Hojjatoleslam Kazem Seddiqi said that the massive turnout of people in the elections is quite noteworthy.
“The Iranian people resisted the pressures exerted by the Western and Eastern powers and defended their religion and revolution,” Hojjatoleslam Seddiq said, a reference to people’s massive turnout in different Iranian cities.
The Alim pointed out that the enemies embarked on extensive propaganda against Iran’s parliamentary elections indicating that they fear from the democratically elected parliament.
“The enemy has become weaker due to the fact that their animosity backfired,” Tehran’s interim Friday prayer leader added.
Commenting on the desecration of the Holy Quran at a US airbase in Bagram, Afghanistan, Hojjatoleslam Seddiqi noted that this stupidity was not something new and last year an ignorant US priest desecrated the Holy Quran.
He pointed out that sacrilege to the Holy Quran is tantamount to insulting the humanity, holy books of other religions, and insulting other prophets too.
Tehran’s provisional Friday prayers leader for his part appreciated Afghan people for their anti-US protests in the case of desecration of the Holy Quran.
In other parts of his Friday prayers sermon, Hojjatoleslam Seddiqi pointed to recent political developments in Syria castigating the ‘Friends of Syria’ conference held in Tunisia saying that some countries flare up animosity with Syria under the guise of being friends of Syria.
“These Arab leaders are actually representatives of the European Union and the US and they provoke their people to engage in further awakening,” he added.
Referring to the fact that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has ordered the implementation of reforms in his country, the senior cleric pointed out that the Syrian people are with their government and they are active in democracy.
“The enemies of Syria instead of appreciating such move are after civil war in the Arab country under the guise of friendship,” Hojjatoleslam Seddiqi added.
Criticizing the crimes by Al Khalifa regime against the people of Bahrain and the massacre of Palestinians by the Zionist regime, he pointed out that they (Bahrain’s regime and the Zionist regime) instead of stopping killing the innocent people, they interfere in Syria’s internal affairs.

Nation will deal a heavy blow to global hegemony
Nation will deal a heavy blow to global hegemony
2012/02/29 - 15:29
Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei said on Wednesday the Iranian nation will slap the hegemonic powers in the face in the upcoming parliamentary elections on Friday.
Islamic Revolution Leader made the remarks on Wednesday in an address to a large number of people from different walks of life and family members of martyrs.
Ayatollah Khamenei said the Iranian nation will demonstrate its firm will to fight enemies through massive participation in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
Ayatollah Khamenei further noted that the low election turnout of American people in different presidential elections was in no way comparable to that of Iranians both in presidential elections in 2010 and the eighth parliamentary elections.
Saying that massive participation of people in elections will produce a stronger parliament, Islamic Revolution Leader added that sending eligible and honest people to the parliament was as important as people's turnout in the polls.
Ayatollah Khamenei also pointed to the explicit and direct remarks by the leader of the hegemonic powers on exerting pressures on the Iranian people to exhaust their patience and give up their resistance.
He said the US, the West and the Zionist regime want to stop the Iranian nation from moving in its path which has led to awakening of the Islamic world and made Iran a role model for other Muslim nations.
Ayatollah Khamenei further stressed great importance of people’s massive turnout in the 9th parliamentary elections.
Leader of the Islamic Revolution further said that the nation will deal a blow to the bullying powers even more severe than the one dealt on them during rallies celebrating the victory anniversary of the Islamic Revolution, making the enemies understand that they could do nothing against the nation.
The Leader also said that the Friday elections are more sensitive compared to the previous ones.
Noting that February 11 demonstrations this year just failed because of people’s support for the Islamic system, Ayatollah Khamenei said enemies wished to have a handful of grouplets come to streets in protest against the Islamic system but things went wrong for them and now people have started to take to streets in Europe in protest at their governments.

Supreme Leader’s Speech to Nuclear Scientists
Supreme Leader’s Speech to Nuclear Scientists
22/02/2012
The following is the full text of the speech delivered on February 22, 2012 by Ayatollah Khamenei the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution in a meeting with Iranian nuclear scientists in Tehran.
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I am very happy to meet you dear people, the valuable brothers and sisters who are active in an arena of historic significance which is a source of national pride. We have said a lot of good things about you behind your backs and we truly respect you. And today is an opportunity to express our respect face to face. I am thankful to God. Of course, these are blessings from God. All these blessings are from the Creator. "And whatever favor is (bestowed) on you it is from Allah." [The Holy Quran, 16: 53] It is a divine blessing to have competent, intelligent, scholarly, innovative and motivated manpower. It is a blessing from God. I am grateful to you and I am also thankful to Allah the Exalted for blessing this nation and this system with your existence.
One point is that everybody who is rendering services in a particular area should be well aware of the value of his services. If he appreciates the value of his services, he will continue his work in the best possible way. But if he fails to do so, he will naturally abandon his duty. If a person who is guarding a particular place fails to appreciate the value of his work, he will naturally let down his guard and fall asleep. Therefore, the first point is that we should be aware of the significance of the work we are doing.
Now I would like to say a few things in this regard. There are many different aspects to your work. One aspect of your work is that it instilled a sense of national dignity into this nation and this country, which is very important. Nations face serious trouble only when they lose their dignity, when they serve foreigners for free and forget their own value. This shows the importance of dignity. An oppressed nation - such as the nations in North Africa and other places - rises up only when it feels its dignity has been trampled upon. Then it rises up and no power can stand in the way of such a nation. This has already happened. This shows the importance of dignity. The Revolution instilled a sense of dignity into our nation and our country. They tried to discourage our nation on many occasions. They tried to convince our people that they were incompetent. "Yes, you carried out a revolution, but you cannot run the country by yourselves. You cannot make progress. You cannot keep up with the world." Every scientific advance is a testimony to the competence of our nation. And your work in nuclear technology instilled a sense of dignity into this nation. This is one dimension of the significance of your work.
The value of such things cannot be measured with materialistic calculations. Of course, all these things are being measured with money in the materialistic world. All human values are finally reduced to money. And this is the affliction of the materialistic world and it will definitely bring materialistic people down. The truth is that there are certain things whose value cannot be measured with money. One may light-heartedly mention money just to make a comparison. I remember I had travelled to one of our provinces. One of the meetings that had been arranged was a meeting with our academics. It was a very enthusiastic meeting. One of the learned professors - whom I knew from before - delivered a speech at the meeting. A few people spoke at the meeting and this learned man was among them. In order to attract the attention of government officials and myself to the problems of the province, he mentioned the capacities that the province enjoyed. For example, he said that certain projects in the province were worth billions and that there was room for such and such investments. I told him that the things he mentioned were materialistic and that he himself was worth several billions more. A learned professor living in a city, in the capital city of a province - can this be compared with the materialistic advantages that the province enjoys? This is the value of ideas and outstanding personalities. You should know that the work you are doing is important.
Of course, as I said, your work has many different aspects. In their propaganda, they have been trying to say that the work on nuclear energy is ideologically motivated - that it has nothing to do with our national interests. This is while your work is directly related to our national interests. The work on nuclear energy is directly related to our national interests. The report that was presented by Dr. Abbasi explained certain aspects of the relationship between nuclear energy and our national interests. The work on nuclear energy is for the sake of the nation, the country and the future.
The arrogant powers of the world - which consider ruling the world as their right - refer to themselves as the global community. This is while they are not the global community. The global community consists of the people and their governments. There are a few countries that refer to themselves as the global community and they issue orders, speak, dismiss and demand on behalf of the global community. These countries have built their global hegemony on their monopoly on science and technology. Some of the uproar that they cause is because they do not want this monopoly to be broken. If the people manage to make progress in nuclear technology, in aerospace, in electronic areas and in different industrial, technological and scientific areas, there will no longer remain a way for them to maintain their bullying and coercive hegemony.
One of the biggest crimes that has been committed against humanity is that over the past two, three centuries - after the Industrial Revolution - knowledge has turned into a means for bullying. The English, who were among the pioneers of the Industrial Revolution, used their knowledge to shackle other nations around the world. Do you know what happened during the reign of the English in the vast and rich Indian subcontinent? And the events were not just limited to the Indian subcontinent. The whole of East Asia was under their boots for more than a century and they dominated the people of East Asia by using their knowledge as a tool. The people felt frustrated. Many people were killed. Many wishes were dashed. Many nations fell behind. Many countries were destroyed. This was how they used their knowledge. This is the biggest treachery to knowledge, just as it is the biggest treachery to humanity. They do not want this monopoly to be broken. Any nation that manages to stand on its own feet independently - and not with their permission and approval and under their yoke - will contribute to undermining this monopoly. Fortunately, this work has already started in Iran.
You should pursue this important field and this essential and great work in an absolutely serious way. Rely on Allah, and Allah the Exalted will help you. There are human and natural capacities. Fortunately, today there are political capacities as well. Sometimes there might be human and natural capacities, but political capacities might be lacking in a country: the hegemony of the enemy does not let such a country breathe and utilize its human and natural capacities. The Revolution took place and created these political capacities. You can - and you must - move forward.
The purpose of the uproar they cause is to stop us. They know that we are not after nuclear weapons. They already know this. I do not have any doubts that in the countries that are opposed to us, the organizations in charge of decision-making are fully aware that we are not after nuclear weapons. Nuclear weapons are not at all beneficial to us. Moreover, from an ideological and fiqhi perspective, we consider developing nuclear weapons as unlawful. We consider using such weapons as a big sin. We also believe that keeping such weapons is futile and dangerous, and we will never go after them. They know this, but they stress the issue in order to stop our movement.
We want to prove to the world that nuclear weapons do not bring about power. This is because the nuclear powers are suffering from the biggest problems today. They dominated the world through nuclear threats, but today such threats are no longer effective. We want to say that we are not after nuclear weapons, that we do not believe nuclear weapons bring about power and that we can break the kind of power that is based on nuclear weapons. By Allah's favor, our nation will do this.
Of course, you know that the pressure they exert on us - the pressure of sanctions, threats, assassinations and other such things - is a sign of their weakness. It shows that whatever they do will only strengthen our nation. Their actions will only convince our people that they have chosen the right goal and that their movement is continuing in an appropriate way. As a result, the enemy has been infuriated.
This movement is not just a nuclear movement. Today their pretext is the nuclear issue. They use the nuclear pretext to impose sanctions on us. How long is it since the nuclear issue was first brought up? The sanctions have been there for thirty years. Why were they imposing sanctions on us when the nuclear issue did not exist? It is just a matter of fighting a nation that has decided to become independent, a nation that has decided to resist oppression, a nation that has decided to expose oppression, a nation that has decided to stand up against oppressors and oppression, a nation that is determined to convey this message to the entire world. We have tried to convey this message and by Allah's favor, we will try even harder in the future. Sanctions, political pressure and other such things will not be effective. When a nation decides to stand firm, when a nation believes in divine assistance and its domestic power and capacities, nothing can stand in its way.
This is my advice: strengthen your resolve. Increase the motivation to continue this path in your organization and among the people who have taken on this important responsibility. Your work is significant. Your work is important and by Allah's favor, it will determine the future of this country. The issue is not that we will be able to use the nuclear industry to promote our national interests. The issue is that this movement strengthens the resolve of our youth, our scientists and our people, and it makes them steadfast on their path. This is an important point. Keeping our people steadfast and motivated is more important than the direct rewards of the nuclear industry. You are active in this arena and God willing, Allah the Exalted will help you.
We will pray for you. We will definitely help and support you whenever necessary. We believe that by Allah's favor, you will move forward and remove the obstacles from your path one after the other. By Allah's favor, your future will be far better than your present.
Greetings be upon you and Allah's mercy and blessings
